Jim holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

- Jim founded TriMech in 1998, an engineering technology company serving the manufacturing and engineering industries. Over 12 years, the company grew from $0 to $30 million in annual revenue, with a territory stretching from Georgia to Pennsylvania.
- In 2010, Jim sold his 50% stake in TriMech and pursued an opportunity in software development for the higher education market.
- He later helped build IOTA|360 into a technology leader in the credentialing and accreditation process for institutions of higher learning.
