You Don’t Have to Settle for “Fine”

Next week, you’ll hear a lot about gratitude.
(Including from me)
Gratitude is a cornerstone of my life. It allows me to wake up every day and feel fulfilled, no matter how packed the calendar is or how many fires I have to put out.
But today, I want to talk about something that gratitude can mask:
Not setting the bar high enough.

Every business owner is doing more than running a business.
You’re making sure your clients and employees alike are taken care of.
You’re guiding the company financially to make sure you hit your goals.
You’re following trends like AI and figuring out how you need to adapt.
You’re caring for someone: partner, kids, parents, friends. Probably several someones in your life need your love, attention, and time.
And you’re caring for yourself, too. At least you should be.
With so much on your shoulders, it’s natural that some areas get more focus than others. That emphasis shifts and changes over time, especially if you have kids.
And that’s perfectly fine.
But if you aren’t careful, some things don’t just shift. They slide, and slide, and slide…until they slip away.
You might look up one day and realize you accepted something as “fine” that no longer feels that way.
Maybe it’s your health that you ignored for too long. A relationship you didn’t nurture enough. Experiences you wanted to have but kept putting off.
“Fine” might be okay temporarily. But in my opinion, it’s not good enough for you.
I want you to be great, excellent, fantastic. Having the time of your life.
It can feel selfish, especially when you have so much in some areas, to strive for better than “fine.”
You deserve it, though. We all do.
So whether that’s breaking through to the next level in your business, reconnecting with a friend who lost touch, or, I don’t know, becoming an expert water skiier, it’s okay to go after what you want.
You can be grateful for what you have. And still want to do something great.
